Yoram Izhak has resurfaced in recent headlines, especially after his significant donations to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel’s re-election campaign. Izhak generously donated $5,000 personally, with an additional $15,000 coming from companies based in a building he owns in North Miami.
Interestingly, Izhak hasn’t always had a smooth relationship with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Years ago, he was caught trying to board a Delta Airlines flight to JFK International Airport with a loaded gun on his ankle. This action led to a formal complaint in 2002, stating Izhak tried to board a plane with a concealed dangerous weapon.
Fast forward to 2004, and Izhak faced legal troubles again. This time, he admitted to tax evasion. Reports suggest that Izhak had ties with an organized crime group known as “The Corporation” or the “Cuban Mafia.” This group was allegedly involved in various illegal activities, including drug trafficking and murder. While Izhak was initially associated with money laundering for this group, many of the serious charges against him, like racketeering, were dropped. In the end, he cooperated with authorities and was convicted of tax evasion, resulting in a probation sentence.
Given his criminal record, Izhak was strictly ordered by the court not to possess any weapons and to steer clear of any further illegal activities. It’s quite a twist, considering his recent financial support for law enforcement’s re-election campaign.
